The Cairo Symphony Orchestra announces auditions for the following positions for the season 2026/2027

Associate Concertmaster:

Requirements:

·        Mozart Concerto

·        1 big, Romantic Concerto

·        Mahler Symphony no.4 / Mozart Symphony no.39                      

·        Mendelssohn Midsummer Night Dream

·        Solos: Brahms 1^st Symphony, 2^nd mov. Rimsky- Korsakov Scheherazade, Capriccio Espagnol

Principal - Second Violin:

Requirements:

·        Mozart Concerto 1^st mov.

·        1 big, Romantic Concerto

·        Mahler Symphony no.4 / Mozart Symphony no.39                      

·        Mendelssohn Midsummer Night Dream

Advanced Tutti – Cello  

(Internal audition for contracted members only!)

Requirements:

·        Haydn Cello concerto in D major

·        Romantic Concerto

·        Advanced Tutti - Mozart: Symphony no.39, 4^th mov., Schumann: Symphony no 2, 2^nd mov., R. Strauss: Don Juan       

·        Assistant Principal - Brahms Piano concerto no 2, 3th mov. Brahms Symphony no. 2, 2^nd mov

French Horn (high/low):

Requirements:

·        Mozart Concerto nAo. 3 K. 447

·        Beethoven Sonata in F Op. 17

·        Beethoven Symphony no.3, Scherezo 3th mov (trio), Weber Freischutz overture

2^nd Oboe:

 Requirements:

·        Mozart Concerto for Oboe 1^st /2^nd mov

·        Strauss Oboe Concerto 1th mov

·        Scheherazade Oboe Solo, Brahms Violin Concerto

Assistant Principal Percussionist with obligation to Timpani 

Requirements:

Excellent performance on All Standard Percussion Instruments as follows:

Marimba/ Xylophone:

·        1th part of any concerts for Marimba of Xylophone, performer’s choice with accompaniment + xylophone

·        Benjamin Britten “The young Persons guide to the orchestra, variation M.

Timpani:

·        1th mov. of sonata or an extended piece for timpani of the performer’s choice.                                                                        

·         Beethoven Symphony no.5, bar 576 to 601, bar 731 to the end of mov..

·        Beethoven Symphony no.9, letter F to H, 4^th mov.. From the beginning to 2/4 Allegro ma non troppo. 4^th mov., letter S, two bars before Prestissimo the of mov..

·        J. Brahms, Symphony no.1, 4^th mov, letter M to N, letter Q bar 9, to the end of mov..
